In 2025, the last full year of PacFIN data, West Coast commercial fishermen landed 4.7 million pounds of petrale sole worth $6.2 million, averaging $1.30 per pound. Ex-vessel value fell 8% from 2024, while average price per pound rose 12%. Ranked by total catch value, petrale sole is 14th among the 263 species and species groups reported to PacFIN and tracked by Cormorant.
Petrale sole is landed coastwide, with Oregon (70%), California (20%), and Washington (10%) each accounting for a significant share of 2025 ex-vessel value. It was landed in 17 of the 19 PacFIN port areas, from Northern Puget Sound, Washington, south to Santa Barbara, California, with confidential landings as far south as San Diego. Columbia River (OR) led all port areas with 55% of value.

6 port areas have confidential petrale sole data and are excluded from these rankings.
Petrale sole is landed year-round; even the busiest month, December, accounted for just 13% of 2025 landed pounds. Timing differs by state: landings peaked in December in California and Oregon, and May in Washington.
Petrale sole is landed almost entirely with trawl gear (99% of its 2025 West Coast ex-vessel value, based on PacFIN gear-group landings).
