Cormorant is a fisheries intelligence tool built for commercial fishermen working the West Coast — California, Oregon, and Washington. The goal is straightforward: take the raw data that state and federal agencies publish about fish landings, vessel activity, and geographic areas, and turn it into something actually useful for planning a trip.
Most of the underlying data is already public. CDFW, ODFW, PacFIN, and NOAA publish catch records, AIS vessel data, and port-level landing summaries. But it's scattered across different agencies, buried in CSV exports, and formatted for researchers — not fishermen. Cormorant pulls it together, normalizes it, and puts it maps and charts you can use.
The project is currently in buildout and beta testing. Some features are still being built, data does not cover all ranges available, and things may change. Feedback from real fishermen is what shapes the roadmap. If something looks wrong, missing, or broken, say something.
Data sources currently included: CDFW Marine Fisheries Data Explorer (California commercial landings), PacFIN APEX Reporting System (California, Oregon, and Washington landings and ex-vessel prices), and NOAA Marine Cadastre (commercial vessel positions). Additional sources are in development.
Data shown is sourced from public government datasets and carries the limitations of those sources — including reporting lags, sampling uncertainty, and confidentiality thresholds. Cormorant does not guarantee accuracy and is not a substitute for official fisheries reporting or regulatory guidance.
